Shift Supervisor
Responsible for optimizing productivity and supervising the activities of personnel in a union shop to ensure safe and effective operations. This position is also responsible for the shipping department on off shifts. o Assist in developing/updating all safety policies and practices as well as enforcement of compliance by all employees o Enforce all company policies and procedures including administration of any applicable discipline o Assure that each unit is operating within recommended parameters o Communicate with maintenance personnel regarding necessary repairs and initialize schedule changes to minimize downtime o Make appropriate quality decisions and dispositions to keep material flow moving and minimum rework costs o Spot check finished product off each unit for proper quality requirements as well as received product o Solicit new ideas/suggestions from employees to increase production and improve quality and safety o Perform necessary sampling, testing and calibrations as required and enter results into BAI system o Fill vacancies per contract on all units o Complete all accident and incident investigations accurately and efficiently o Review and recommend changes, if applicable, to Standard Operating Procedures o Resolve employee conflicts o Review, edit and approve time keeping system for hourly employees o Strong knowledge of steel processing, slitting, coating, roll-forming o Possess ability to coach and mentor workers for maximum effectiveness o Strong delegation skills o Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills o Strong conflict resolution skills o Knowledge of EPA and OSHA/safety programs and regulationsEducation/Experience o 3 - 5 years production supervision in steel manufacturing environment o Post-secondary education preferredThese job functions are not intended to be all-inclusive.
